Spend an afternoon learning about the wonders of African Art! Jean Borgatti, Consulting Curator at the Fitchburg Art Museum, will delve in to a different aspect of African Art each month.

In this talk learn about African art during the medieval period of 1000-1600 CE including the Trans-Saharan trade, Igbo-Ukwu, Ife, Benin, Djenné, Lalibela, Great Zimbabwe.

Art note: Detail of the Catalan Atlas showing the 14th century emperor of ancient Mali Mansa Musa said to be the richest man in the history of the world. He carries a gold nugget symbolizing his control of the trade in West African gold to North Africa and southern Europe, particularly the Italian city states.
