Learn the basics of matrix planting in this Zoom webinar.
Matrix planting is naturalistic gardening in its purest form. The word “matrix” refers to a landscape design model in which perennials and grasses are used to imitate meadows, designing plant layers that work together, not in isolation. It’s been the hottest professional design trend over the past few years, but it hasn’t gained much traction among home gardeners. Why? Maybe people don’t know where to start. This presentation provides a starting point.
Deborah Chud is a retired Massachusetts physician turned garden maker, consultant, and educator, who specializes in coaching home gardeners. Her years of research on the world’s most famous New Perennial gardens (including New York’s High Line, Chicago’s Lurie Garden, the Oudolf Meadow at Delaware Botanic Garden, and Oudolf Garden Detroit) have generated a unique database of New Perennial plant combinations and fostered the creation of her own highly unusual New Perennial garden. Deborah’s garden has become a “must see” for MA garden clubs & green organizations as well as a source of data for a study of pollinator activity by Professor Richard Primack of Boston University.
