Andover Pollinator Pathway Speaker Series featuring Meredith Gallogly.

Planting native shrubs in our gardens is a valuable way to create habitat, but many of these beautiful and adaptable species are still little known or underutilized in horticulture. In this presentation, learn about the diversity and ecological value of the native shrubs that are common in our local woodlands, wetlands, and field edges, as well as how they can be incorporated into managed landscape settings.

The native shrubs of New England comprise a brilliant array of forms, flowers, and fruits, and support just as diverse a mix of insects, birds, and other wildlife. Some, like inkberry (Ilex glabra), have gained popularity as landscaping plants, but many other adaptable species are still overlooked. Join us to get to know these hidden gems! This presentation will focus on shrubs available in the nursery industry, but also highlight promising species that are rarely cultivated, like sweetbells (Eubotrys racemosa).

Meredith Gallogly is Manager of Programs for Grow Native MA. An avid plant observer, she loves helping others discover the beauty of our native flora and understand its importance as the foundation of our ecosystems.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of Memorial Hall Library, Andover Seed Library, the Andover Pollinator Pathway, Andover Garden Club, Tewksbury Public Library, GAR Memorial Library, and Newburyport Library.
