Learn strategies and tips to help with performance anxiety and the fear of "choking."
Does the thought of public speaking make your pulse race? Do you get nervous before playing in a big game or concert, or taking a test? Join Bill Cashman and Rickey Silverman for a discussion on performance anxiety, in sports and beyond. They will discuss what performance anxiety is and different tools that you can use to combat performance anxiety. Meditation, rituals, relaxation techniques, and ways to reframe your thinking are some of the strategies that will be shared during the presentation.
Rickey B. Silverman, PhD is a Licensed Psychologist. His long and varied career includes time as a School Psychologist, Professor of Psychology teaching courses such as Theories of Personality and Adolescent Psychology, and as a psychologist at Silverman and Associates. In his retirement, he continues to facilitate a program in Derry, NH on anger and emotion management.
Bill Cashman spent 42 years in the federal government, as an educator and manager. Much of his work included providing civil rights training to military and civilian employees around the U.S. Before leading training sessions, he needed to overcome his own anxiety about public speaking, and joined Toastmasters International, the public speaking and leadership organization. He holds the title of Distinguished Toastmaster, the organization’s highest designation. In Bill's retirement, he took up tennis, and noticed the negative effects of performance anxiety in sports, in both himself and others. In trying to alleviate his own anxiety in that regard, he studied up on sports psychology and anxiety and is ready to share his experience.
