Join Carl Jappe for the next presentation in our Fish On! series- this time focusing on fishing in Alaska.
Carl Jappe grew up Wakefield, and spent summers at his family’s cottage on Horn Pond, which sits on the border of New Hampshire and Maine at the headwaters of the Salmon Falls River. He started fishing when he was very young, took up flyfishing and fly tying at age 11, and fished rivers and ponds near the cottage and up into the White Mountains. On hikes and backpacking trips his walking stick was a Fenwick 2-piece fly rod tube with a rubber cup taped to the end. And he always had a camera.
In 1986 Carl made his first trip to Alaska. What he thought would be the trip of a lifetime became a lifetime of trips. This year he’ll be making his 41st visit to The Great Land. Most of his experience there has been in the early season, targeting rainbow trout, king salmon, sockeye salmon, and grayling. He has fished numerous well-known rivers, including the Kvichak, Naknek, Kenai, Talachulitna, Gulkana, Talkeetna, Togiak, Kanektok, Brooks, and many other notable streams. And when he isn’t fishing, he’s doing photography of landscapes and wildlife.
The presentation will focus on fly fishing tackle and technique for various species, places to fish, and also on some other places and things to see on a trip to Alaska to make it special.
Join us for other Fish On! events on Tuesday, February 3rd and Tuesday, February 17th.
