In this two-session workshop, you’ll learn practical tips for gathering and preserving family stories, from conversations with relatives to uncovering the impact of larger historical events.
Family history is more than names and dates—it's the stories that give them meaning. We’ll explore how your own voice and experiences fit into the narrative, and how to shape family history into writing that is vivid and engaging. Sessions will be hands-on, so bring a notebook, laptop, or whatever you like to write with as we practice turning memories into meaningful stories.
This series will be facilitated by Bridget Rawding, a librarian, educator, and writer in the Merrimack Valley. She has taught writing at Merrimack College and Salem State University, and has led community writing workshops in colleges, libraries, and senior centers throughout the region. Her work has appeared in publications such as Still Point Arts Quarterly, FERAL: A Journal of Poetry and Art, and Vita Brevis Poetry Magazine. She holds an MFA in creative nonfiction from Southern New Hampshire University and enjoys helping others bring their stories to life.
Please note: While this series will focus on preserving family stories, it will not include genealogical research tips or strategies.
